Leonardo Serravalle kicked off his 2026 campaign in the USF Juniors series with a determined and promising performance at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Competing with Zanella Racing over three action-packed days of competition, the young Canadian overcame adversity to have a spirited drive forward in race three after a host of changes throughout the three on-track days.

The event began on Monday with three official test sessions, during which Serravalle steadily built confidence but lacked the pace to compete at the front of the field. With several changes not working throughout the day, the hard-working Zanella Racing crew went to work to change the engine before qualifying the next morning.
Race One saw Serravalle start 14th on the grid after still missing the pace required in the USF Juniors class. With calculated moves and consistent laps, he fought his way forward through the field to secure an eighth-place finish, despite a car that lacked straight-line speed. It was at that point that Zanella Racing went to work, transforming a USF2000-prepared machine into a USF Juniors car to try and give Serravalle a fighting chance to compete.
With the first session in a new car and a ton of overnight changes, Serravalle qualified 17th, a disappointment to say the least. Following the session, it was determined that a setup issue with the car caused the lack of speed, but that was fixed before the second wheel-to-wheel action of the weekend. Demonstrating his racecraft, advancing from 17th on the starting grid to finish eighth, the team and driver felt they had overcome their issues and were excited for Race Three.
Race Three delivered one of the most exciting drives of the event. Starting 12th on the grid and advancing to fifth by the conclusion of lap three, Serravalle was on a serious charge before the caution flag flew. On the restart, Serravalle jumped from fifth to second before turn one as he set his sights on the leader. After several laps of green flag running, a fellow competitor attempted an aggressive overtake, causing Serravalle to spin off course and nearly lose his front wing. The overtaking driver eventually lost his front wing due to contact. Despite returning to the track and completing the full race distance, the Zanella Racing driver was well down the order after looking at a potential podium result.

“I am really proud of the progress we made this weekend, and extremely thankful for the team,” explained Serravalle. “The tests on Monday were difficult due to the issues, and once everything was right, we showed that we can move forward and compete at the front of the field. There are still things to clean up, but I am confident we are heading in the right direction. Again, another huge shoutout to the Zanella Racing program for overcoming some issues and showing our true potential in races two and three.”
The season opener at Homestead demonstrated resilience from the young driver, setting the stage for continued growth as the 2026 USF Juniors season unfolds. With valuable points and experience gained in the opening round, Serravalle now turns his focus to the next event on the calendar. The USF Juniors championship continues April 16-19 at Carolina Motorsports Park, where Serravalle and Zanella Racing will aim to build on their early-season momentum.
